Movie theaters are now serving alcohol to help boost profits during a time of failing attendance including special themed drinks based on specific movies.
During the past two years, 32 states have relaxed their liquor laws to allow theaters to serve alcohol in any auditorium instead of only designated areas.
New York is currently a dry state mostly because of lobbying by Broadway theaters which are allowed to serve alcohol, but the governor is trying open the alcohol market to movie theaters soon.
Employees at a Houston, Texas, daycare want parents to get off their phones and pay attention to their kids, so they posted a sign.
The sign read: “You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!! Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone. We have heard a child say ‘Mommy, mommy, mommy…” and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling. Get off your phone!!’
A parent took a photo of the sign and posted it on social media. It has gone viral.
One parent wasn’t happy about the sign and said: ‘Could it be that you’re self employed, dealing with clients, sorting out problems???? But no I’ll put down the phone, lose clients and the bills won’t get paid!!!!! You can look at the kids work when you get home!!!! Jeez some people are a special kind of stupid!!!!!’
Others took issue with the way the message was relayed, with some calling it rude.
Your job could be wreaking havoc on your long-term health.
A group of psychologists have shared some tell-tale signs that your job is having a negative impact on your mental health and could be quietly causing anxiety and depression.
1- You are not sleeping properly:
If you’re having difficulty getting to sleep or are waking up early, it might be because you have too much on your mind.
2- You are making mistakes:
Making careless or silly mistakes can be a sign that you don’t have enough head space.
3- You are short-tempered:
Stress can give us a short fuse and can reduce our patience.
4- You are unable to concentrate:
Stress can put us into fight or flight mode, a feeling of panic, which can leave us unable to maintain focus on one thing for long.
5- You feel tearful or emotional:
Everything can feel just too much when we are stressed.
6- You have lost your sense of humour:
If life has become too serious and you have lost your sense of fun, your job could be the problem.
7- You feel like you don’t care anymore:
Burnout happens when we are stressed, and one symptom is a lack of caring about customers, products or patients while at work.
8- You wake up each morning with a feeling of dread:
Waking up and feeling anxious about the day ahead, or simply not wanting to get out of bed, are signs that you may need to seek professional counseling.
New York Magazine’s Science of Us has revealed the ‘disgusting’ things we touch every day without realizing it.
Self-checkout screens
Whether we are food-shopping or at an ATM, we are using more and more touch screens in everyday life now. And while they might get a wipe down at the end of the day, it seems unlikely that they’re properly disinfected – much as they might need to be. 50 percent of self-checkout screens are contaminated with fecal matter. Ground-floor elevator buttons
Every single person who uses the lift in a day will press this button because they need to get to the ground floor to exit the building. A virus that causes cold-like symptoms is especially common on this button. Re-usable bags
We are now being encouraged to re-use our shopping bags, but they can in fact be major germ-carriers. People rarely clean them, despite the fact that they regularly put raw food in them to carry it back from the supermarket. 99 percent of bags carry bacteria such as coliform and E.coli. Hand towels
A lot of people don’t wash their hands properly and any lingering bacteria then gets transferred to the towel. And as bacteria grows in moist places, hand towels are the perfect environment for growing even more germs. All towels should be washed every two days. Coffeepot handles
The first place people go to when they get to work is the coffeepot to get their first caffeine fix. That means that whatever they touched before they got to work, such as the handrails on public transport, is on that handle. 50 percent of coffeepot handles contain coliform bacteria, which is an indicator of fecal matter.
A dermatologist believes that adding sugar to your shampoo could leave you with cleaner, healthier hair.
Adding a tablespoon of sugar to your regular shampoo will gently exfoliate the scalp.
She said: ‘Not only are you removing all the gunk more efficiently, but nixing dead skin cells allows conditioners to penetrate efficiently. So you’re getting a deeper clean and better moisture, all at the same time.’
The expert recommends combining the sugar granules with a moisturizing shampoo and only using it every four washes to keep from over-exfoliating.
Another expert isn’t convinced. He thinks sugar may be too abrasive.
