Ellen DeGeneres Donates $500,000 to School in Detroit

Ellen DeGeneres is giving more than $500,000 in donations to Spain Elementary School in Detroit.

Ellen announced all the donations, including a $50,000 in technology, $200,000 for a new roof, $250,000 cash for the school and $100 gift cards for each teacher and staff member.

Ellen also started a GoFundMe page for the school with a $5 million goal, and GoFundMe itself kicked in $15,000 to help start things off.

The show initially reached out to the Detroit School District in January, after hearing about all the repair and maintenance issues at the school. The school recently made headlines due to its lack of heating, books, technology a complete teaching staff.

Justin Bieber took part in Ellen DeGeneres’ surprise.

Justin pledged to donate thousands of dollars on top of what Ellen had already promised the school.

He also announced that $1 from every ticket sold to his concert on April 25th in Michigan would go to the school.
