These Stars Stand In Solidarity & Support The Writers Guild of America ✍️

After last-minute negotiations (til just before midnight), the Writers Guild of America and major studios have FAILED to avert a strike. This means that all productions will now grind to a halt – with late night shows being the first affected. Other “scripted” series have enough pre-written material to last a little longer. The WGA is pushing for better pay and residuals – particularly from streaming content.

There’s A New Barbie In Town & She Has Down Syndrome! 💙🎗️💛

As a mother to a daughter that has Down Syndrome, my heart is beating fast at the thought of Barbie’s new doll with Down Syndrome features. I’ve shared Bella’s journey on the radio for the past decade and this is the first time I can share about an exciting new Barbie doll representing the Down Syndrome community! The news of the new Barbie just dropped on the National Down Syndrome Society’s website and is part of this year’s worldwide effort: “Barbie Fashionistas Lineup,” which allows more children the opportunity to find a doll that represents them.

Mattel worked closely with the NDSS to develop a Barbie that shares similar Down Syndrome characteristics, such as:

  • New rounder face, smaller ears, flat nasal bridge, along with the eyes slightly slanted in an almond shape.
  • The doll’s palms even include a single line “Simean crease.”
  • The doll’s outfit represents with yellow and blue colors, which are symbols and colors associated with Down syndrome awareness.
  • The doll also wears pink ankle foot orthotics (AFO’s) as some children use to support their feet and ankles.
  • The doll’s pink pendant necklace with three upward chevrons represents the three copies of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic material that causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome. The three chevrons, or arrows, are a symbol that unites the Down syndrome community and are meant to represent “the lucky few” who have someone with Down syndrome in their life.

The doll is for sale at stores for $10.99. Good luck finding one! If you do, please let me know where. I need to get one for our family! Thanks for all the support everyone! 🙂

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has served families in our communities when we needed them most. Ellen K’s son Calvin had a really bad football injury that resulted in emergency surgery. Social Queen Darlene’s mom & dad were served here as children back in the 60’s and currently, her daughter with special needs has all of her specialists at CHLA. No doubt, this place holds a special place in our hearts forever. We hope you never need them, but in the event that you do, they will always be here to serve our kids!

More children receive care from CHLA than any other hospital in the region—and often CHLA comes to the rescue for children when other hospitals run out of medical options for their care. Walk and Play L.A. is the event that supports the only hospital solely dedicated to the health of children in Los Angeles.

Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  • Donate whatever you can, $10.35 or $103.50 or really, whatever you want! Your donation will all help the children being served at CHLA.
  • Join TEAM KOST in-person or virtually walk with us wherever you are! Sign up to register using discount code: ELLEN22, for $10 off!
  • Take pictures and be sure to share them with us on social media! There’s so many people you can tag in any of your social media posts:

@childrensla @officialellenk @kost1035fm #WalkandPlayLA #ellenkmorningshow @socialqueendarlene

I hope you’ll join us and help support our efforts with a donation to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Your tax-deductible gift will make a difference in the lives of many young patients and their families. Any amount, great or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help us create hope and build healthier futures for the children in our care.
